DESCRIPTION:Girl Power empowers girls in grades six through 12 to experience a variety of career fields including chemistry\, public relations\, law and medicine. The event brings professionals from a vast array of occupations\, including Duke Energy employees\, to the EnergyExplorium to speak about their daily work routines\, factors that led to their profession and skills that can girls can start developing now.\n\nWhile career exploration is a major component of Girl Power\, girls will also leave with valuable lessons and tips on self-defense and alcohol and drug abuse. Duke Energy has teamed with the American Taekwondo Association and will demonstrate key self-defense tactics while the Huntersville Police Department will give girls the opportunity to get behind the wheel and drive golf carts using visual impairment goggles\, also known as beer goggles\, to demonstrate the effects of driving under the influence of alcohol. \n\nWhile in past years the event was only open to Girl Scouts\, this year will mark the first time that all teenage girls will be eligible to participate. Girl Power aims to encourage girls to learn about a variety of careers as they begin to identify their talents and plan for their futures.
