When dealing with the aging process there comes a time when you may have to address what mom or dad needs in their later years of life, or perhaps even for yourself. This can also be the case for other family members, especially if there’s an unexpected health condition that arises or a traumatic life incident that occurs. Too often families wait until the need arises or is far past what it should be before reaching out for help. This can be very taxing on all involved and make the process extremely difficult, particularly if there has been no preparation or research of what should be in place. Being prepared, having a plan, and knowing where to turn is half the battle. As caregivers, sitters, service providers, ministerial staff, etc. we too should be knowledgeable in order to assist the families that we serve. In a special effort to help individuals be more prepared for decisions in the aging process, an educational program with a panel of local healthcare experts featuring a common scenario case study of an aging couple and the healthcare choices they face as they age will be held at the South Iredell Senior Center: 202 N. Church Street in Mooresville on Thurs., Sept. 29th 10 am – Noon. Panel Members will include: Home Care, Glenn Holden of Home Helpers, Assisted and Independent Living, Valerie Frank of Summit Place of Mooresville, Skilled Nursing, Rebecca Flowe of Genesis Healthcare Mooresville Center, Hospice and Palliative Care, Sanford Sacks of Catawba Regional Hospice, Elder Care Attorney (Medicare, Medicaid), Cynthia Lynn of the Law Offices of Jonathan Frank, Home Health, Steve Driscoll of Gentiva Home Health, and Long Term Care Insurance and Program Moderator, Stuart Madow of Catawba Regional Hospice. To attend, please RSVP to the South Iredell Senior Center (704) 662-3337 by Thurs., Sept. 22.
