Wolfman Pizza will begin a month long food drive on June 1st, 2007 at all five locations to support the Hunger Awareness campaign conducted by Second Harvest Food Bank. Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina serves 16 counties in North and South Carolina. In 2004-2005, the Food Bank distributed 13 million pounds of food and essential grocery items to over 500 non-profit agencies serving the needy as well as to food banks in other areas. Combined, those agencies provided food assistance to nearly 1 million people. Bailey Dunmire, district manager of Wolfman Pizza, recalls the moment she decided to get involved and help the fight against hunger. “I was driving one day and I saw a billboard for Second Harvest. The billboard very simply stated ‘Will work for food, but I’m only 8’. I immediately started tearing up,” says Dunmire, “and was completely blown away to think that hunger still exists in America today. At that moment I knew that we had to help, and the Hunger Awareness campaign is the perfect place to start.” The Hunger Awareness campaign focuses specifically on the needs of children in the summer months when meals and food supports through schools are no longer available. At the center of the Hunger Awareness Campaign is National Hunger Awareness Day on June 5th. Second Harvest is striving to have at least 100 local food drives running successfully on June 5th to help with this campaign.
Each Wolfman Pizza location will kick-off their food drive with an Open House on Tuesday, June 5th, between 5-7pm. Collection barrels will be available beginning Friday, June 1st. Donating patrons will receive a coupon for $5 off a 14-inch specialty pizza or $3 off a 12-inch specialty pizza.
