"Whatever happened to 'Shh' in the library? - Libraries as Community Anchors" will be the presentation at the March 15 meeting of the Probus Club of Lake Norman. Ms. Theresa Stroisch, Principal with Brooktana Consultingwill speak about the monumental changes in what libraries have become since the days of Andrew Carnegie. While teaching middle school math, science, and language arts in Seattle, Washington, she was also an adjunct professor at a private college teaching other teachers how to integrate technology into their curriculum. When the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation offered technology to libraries, Theresa was employed by them to travel the country teaching librarians how to use this gift to the best advantage. Most recently she delivered a change management program for The State Library of North Carolina's Government and Heritage Library team of 30 people. Her talk will include a brief history of the role of libraries in communities. It will include a review of the advent of technology in libraries, including workforce development, teen centers, ongoing digital literacy. We will hear about the new library buildings, structures designed to meet community needs. She will help us look ahead to how libraries become centers with high speed broadband for sharing skill opportunities and on-line learning, even to earning degrees AT the library. All are welcome to attend this free presentation at the Probus Club on March 15, held at the Berea Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Hwy 150, Mooresville, just west of Perth Road. Coffee and fellowship begin at 10 a.m. The hour-long program will begin at 10:30. You are invited to join some members for lunch at a nearby restaurant following the meeting.
