This tournament is for ladies only, is sponsored by Griffin Insurance Agency Nationwide and the best part about it is they get to bid on male caddies to play on their team. This is the 9th year for this tournament and it is bigger and better then ever. Rules of the game? Each team is made up of three ladies and an auctioned ?male caddie?. Caddie bids start at $65 and can go up as high as the ladies are willing to bid. (Don?t forget, the bids are divided by the 3 ladies on each team). All caddies should have a 12 or under handicap and do get to play as the fourth team member with just a few additional rules of play. What does the caddie do? First of all he gets to play, he is also responsible for making sure the team?s golf bags are all in place on the carts, he can offer instructions when asked, he will fetch all golf balls from out of the woods, fairways, sand, water or anywhere else the ladies decide to send them!! He will rake the sand traps, keep score, also keep track of all sand and water shots, tend the pins on the greens and makes sure the ladies? golf balls are clean and shiny. But the most important responsibility the caddie holds is to be sure that all the ladies on his team are having a terrific time. Registration for all women golfers is still $65 plus the caddie auction. That includes a continental breakfast from Chick-Fil-A, greens fee, carts, driving range, lunch from Maple House Café, awards party and buffet dinner provided by Logan?s Roadhouse, trophies, beverages on the course, great door prizes, lots of surprises and guaranteed fun. We even have awards for the most beach and sand shots. Ladies, it doesn?t get any better than that. Sandra Bortree, chair of the tournament committee agrees that ?the best part of this tournament is not just the caddie auction, which is a hoot, or the fact there is no pressure to be a perfect golfer, or even that this event is the only women?s golf tournament in the area that is just for fun, it is because everyone will be ?teeing off for our teachers?. Half of all the proceeds from this event will be given to the Teachers of the Year to purchase school supplies for their classrooms. David Bradley, President of the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce maintains that ?it is imperative that we recognize and celebrate all teachers, particularly those that prove their excellence each year.? Local businessmen are auctioned as additional caddies, all with handicaps of 12 or under. Angie Travis Roberts from ReMax at the Lake will be on stage again this year heading up the auction and creating the excitement that adds to the enjoyment of bidding for the caddies. The reality that this tournament is for women only should make the beginner lady golfers feel very comfortable coming out to play in this Captain?s Choice format since the male caddies will make up the fourth player on the team. One thing you must understand ?the caddies will try and charm you into purchasing them as your team?s ?caddie slave.? For instance, last year restaurant and spa gift certificates, chocolate covered strawberries, wine baskets, golf balls, and much more were offered as incentives for the ladies and the bidding got wild.
